So, in my first week as a member of the MIA team, I was sent out in the field to get a feel for the layout of the show, to 'research' they called it.
I was on location for the Cal Portland Cement and Hobie Cat shoots. Having spent time on every type of set, from music videos, to hit shows, to major features, I thought I had seen it all. I had never gotten paid to spend a day in the sun, 'testing' one of the top ranked kayaks; a Hobie. I was instructed to strap on a life vest, board a brand new Hobie Kayak and take her for a spin in the waters of Oceanside, California. Being the adventurous type, I was ecstatic. That week, my first week, definitely foreshadowed the events to come in the making of "John Ratzenberger's Made in America", season 5.
Where can I buy the dvd for a certain episode?
Thanks you.
What an amazing job!! Keep up the great work - spreading the word about great American-made products!!
Thank you!! (Let me know if you need an Assistant!)

There is a family owned shoe manufacturer in San Antonio, TX, called Piper Sandals. I would love to see MIA feature small companies like this one. It has been around since 1971 and is committed to a high quality product and great service.

My husband & I really enjoy MIA & John. The shows look as if they are fun to do. Its impressive to read your blog and feel the words we can tell you really enjoy it as well.
We too have a suggestion: The Verdin Company, Cincinnati, Ohio. The only company that we know of to have a portable keln to make solid brass bells for bell towers and clock towers with brass bells on site. To celebrate Ohio's bicentennial the Verdin company cast all bells at all 4-H & County fairs a few years ago. There were more than 80 bells cast one for and at each county, not one failed. Yes there were those critics that said it could not be done. Samples of these bell/clock towers can be seen in several cities across the USA, namely Rising Sun, Indiana and my hometown of Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
You can find them on the web too.
Thank you for a great show!!
Hello Ms White
I am an individual who uses a wheelchair because of an accident. Due to some health problems I was researching to find a new wheelchair cushion. I ran across this company:
http://www.aquilacorp.com/
The home page proudly states all their products are made in America and the company is a veteran owned business. I suspect there is a really great story here, both about the company and the owner. It would be great to showcase this company on Made in America. Not only would it showcase the company but the owner is most likely an extraordinary person. Given the times we are in, it would be great to spotlight a successful American Veteran.
Thank you for your time.

Has a segment been done on 'Brown Safe Manufacturing' in San Marcos, CA?? I work around the corner from them and was curious if they have been featured on Made in America?
Thank you

I think you would be very interested in our company as we are Made in America and we are helping to clean up the world by allowing manufacturer's and regulatory agencies to see what "REAL WORLD" emissions are being emitted by Internal combustion engines. We are a small employee owned company located in Saline, Michigan. I love your show and think that it would be a very good episode to highlight our company and possibly show the EPA National Vehicle Emissions Lab in Ann Arbor. HOW DO they calculate fuel economy etc.....
All of us at Continental siding love and watch the show with great pride as john works his way around the country thanking him for putting America back on top as great producers of American made products.Continental siding is owned By Jerry Oneal our company is also in the manufacturing of very unique products in the exterior coverings for homes or commercial application's. Patented systems and seamless vinyl siding make us one of the most innovative companies of this type in America. We would love to see john come out and tour our manufacturing plant and give America the scoop on seamless vinyl siding its getting to be such a demand we are now going nation wide and in to Canada with our products.Thank you keep up on MIA stories we need more shows like this. Thank you Warren Phillips Continental siding Supply and Mfg

If you were to google me you would find out that I have been a champion of the MIA industry for some time. Written a few articles back in the 80's when the train was just leaving the station to the far east. I also testified before a congressional committee on behalf of small "domestic" manufacturers.
I am intrigued by your show and was reviewing the list of companies that have items MIA. Unfortunately except for a stray Hat(since not all Stetson or New Era Caps are MIA) and a few shoes, we would be naked in this country if we had to depend upon MIA. Sad, but true.
People think clothing manufacturing is so unimportant- yet clothing is a basic need, right after shelter and food.
I would welcome the opportunity to add feedback for your show. Keep up the good work and good luck with this next season.
I really enjoy this show. It just proves that America has really GREAT people in it. And I work with many of those great people. The company I work for is Midwest Tool and Cutlery in Sturgis, MI. We make hand tools (think tin snips and aviations, as well others!).
We also have a forge in Kalkaska, MI that forges the blades for the tools. I am just an employee, but I am very proud that our tools are made in America. We sell our tools to many nationwide stores and also export our goods to many different countries.
I think we may be the last American-made hand tool company around - I could be wrong though.
If you would like more information, the company has a website and there is contact information there. I just had to write you because this might be a company you want to show off on your program.
Thanks!
Dianne Brubaker
John, Don't know if you will see this, but just want to tell you how much I like your show....I loved you on Cheers and used to wait for Tuesday nights to view Made In America.... it just makes me feel good! Anyway, I anxiously await your show and am so glad you are back.....keep up the good work, here's hoping that your show is on FOREVER!!!
I am sending you this URL to view as it is a sad plea to save an American Company--Adirondack Blankets.
I have experienced first hand what it means to a community and to hardworking people when a company closes as JE Morgan Knitting Mills the maker of the original Long Johns underwear closed in our town a few years ago.
Is there anything we can do to save these American companies before it is too late...especially the textile industry.

All their competitors source overseas. Check out www.folbot.com. Very fun product and great guys who own the co.

Hagie Manufacturing Company was founded by Ray Hagie in the small town of Clarion Iowa. Ray invented the first self-propelled agricultural sprayer in 1947. Since then the company has grown and so has the machines we build. We now manufacture the worlds largest row-crop sprayer, the STS16. We compete with companies you might have heard of: John Deere, AGCO, nad Case. We have done this in the same location since it was founded. Clarion is a town of only 3000+ people and is the birthplace of the 4-H emblem. We also have a museum of restored antique tractors, including a 1947 Hagie sprayer. Contact me, Clint Middleton at 515-532-2861, address 721 Central Ave W Clarion, Iowa 50525.
Thanks for the consideration.
Love the show!!!!! I work for the company, Biscontini BoatWorks. We make and sell a unique product which is MIA. We make replicas of the 1950 Chris Craft Kit Boats. We sell either the kits for the customers to put together themselves or we can make the boat in-house and sell it to the customer completed. We have a total of 5 employees but we sell our kit boats nationwide. They are absolutely beautiful. I am sure my boss would love to share with your viewers the craftsmanship that goes into making the kits and boats that we sell. We can be contacted at 800-554-2628 or

Hello:
I love this show and I am now becoming more and more aware of products made in China as inflation continues in our country and as US Congress continues to raise the minimum wage, so does less American companies made in America but outsourcing for Chinese labor as China pay's $.25 an hour with no overtime pay and they work 12 to 16 hours a day for a straight 20 days in a row till they can have one day off and than 20 days again.
Congress is regulating too many laws and this causes US companies to stay away from too many regulations, lawsuits, discrimination acts, overtime, unions’ dues, and other benefits to American workers get and this hurts the companies in the United States, so they outsource because what Congress has done (and Unions have done lobbying Congress members). California the minimum wage is $8.00 an hour (in San Francisco it is over $10.00 an hour), that is 16 Chinese employees in the equal amount but also, the employer has to pay insurance, workmen’s comp, bonds that is also on top of the $8.00 an hour, so you can add another 2 Chinese labors to having almost 18 Chinese labors compared to 1 US worker getting $8.00 an hour.
We have a huge problem in this country and Congress is hurting us. We need to lower our minimum wages and offer health care to people working for minimum wages but also we need to get rid of all this US labor regulations to get US companies to bring back made in America. We also need to education children to manage money as we have a low education rate in this country and we have no control of controlling consumers to stop spending but apply for credit.
Made in America is becoming more and more rare each year and stores like Costco, Target, K-Mart, Wal-Mart and etc are buying more and more US companies sourcing Chinese labor to bring the price down because US made products are expensive.
We Americans are so concerned on price as price is what matters and we need to stop spending, stop watching the television with these co called advertising ads to get you to spend your money and getting credit cards and driving up our debts. We live in advertising world in American and they triggers Americans to spend and borrow if they don’t have to money to buy it. We now have a US credit debt in the United States over $1 trillion now, it was over $900 billion earlier this year but that went over just this month as we have all this massive inflation right now, which added to the debt faster than expected. Besides gas, gas prices are here to stay in the next 10 years, till the price comes down to $1.50 a gallon again as inflation is part of our energy problem, no one can fix that, since our US dollar is so weak, it is beyond Suppy & demand now that buying in US dollars from OPEC will only change if the US dollar strengthens but our US government has allowed the US Federal Reserve to lower the interest rates so low that we need to have free enterprise system as presidential candidate Ron Paul (stay running) so we have no private federal agency (Reserve) making rules.
Inflation is hurting American's, not just from gas prices but from the Federal Reserving lower the interests rates, weakening the US dollar to save Wall Street, not our economy.
China & Japan are no longer borrowing from the US anymore that is a fact but the US is so far in debt with China & Japan now 15 years ago China was so poor but they just became an official Superpower this year because of the volume from massive labor population and military forces and etc.
And their GDP is now just hairs away from the US passing our GDP very soon, as expected China will be the richest country in the world soon and that will be happening by either the end of the year or next year. We are buying and buying more and more from China and American's are not paying attention to what products we buy anymore & this is the result.
Especially our US Congress is not helping one bit, we have too many representatives who are listening to company lobbyists, they listen to them and they amend laws and pass these laws as these laws effect us more and more every year.
I am an American and even myself I have neglected buying US made products until recently and now it is so important to me to buy everything made in America and to tell people to buy USA made products but also visiting Congress members showing them how they impacted our US labor away, causing the highest unemployment rate of over 5.2% currently as in 1929 depression period was 7.2%.
I am going to try my best to make as many blogs passing the message for people to buy Made in USA products and to visit US Congress members to show them the numbers how much of our US companies are leaving US labor behind each year.
We also need to write to stores like Costco, Target, Kmart, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Bed & Bath, Ross4less, Ralph Lauren, Staples, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Schwinn, Toys R Us and etc to stop selling made in China products. These stores are in the business to sell, doesn’t matter where it comes from, you buy it they order it and place it on the shelf. I have prepared letters from US companies why they have outsourced US labor for Chinese labor to provide Congress the answer of what Congress has done to our Country. Your help is needed to get Congress to lower the minimum wage are wages are so high businesses can’t afford to hire US workers and they outsource so they can afford it. Congress doesn’t understand so we need to inform them by meeting with them in person to show them the facts.
It is very important to make and buy American made products. If you are proud to be an American--- THEN support our country in ALL aspects including buying the products.
Take time in the store or wherever you buy products to make sure they are USA products.
This show is a GREAT way to learn about American made products.
If we do not buy USA made products then you or someone you know will not have a job and this inturn hurts our economy. It is a continuos cycle.
I work with a friend who runs a company that was inspired to be completely "Made in America" and his products are built here by him of every possible American component he can find.
We love the Made in America ideal, and enjoy the show.

I noticed a link to the Cleveland Arcade under the American-Made Landmarks section. You can find out about its history as well as the 2 smaller downtown arcades on the Cleveland Arcade audio tours found at www.cityprowl.com.
